Governor Inslee has signed Engrossed Substitute House Bill (ESHB) 1332, which allows for an extension of payment on 2021 commercial real property taxes and allows for a payment plan of commercial property taxes due to the state of emergency and COVID impact. However, it is still up to each county to grant the extensions. If a county won’t be able to make scheduled bond payments due to the extension, then the county treasurer may choose to not grant extensions under ESHB 1332.
King County has been supportive of this plan. Your government affairs team worked with them on ways to address commercial property taxes for impacted hospitality members last year. This legislation is an outgrowth of those discussions. Additionally, the benefit of this payment plan is passed on to tenants as well.
