The Seattle Hotel Association endorses the Families, Education, Preschool and Promises Levy (Prop. 1), which will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot for Seattle voters.
This levy seeks to bridge the opportunity gap for Seattle students, from preschool through college. The new levy will:
- Replace the expiring Preschool Levy, which subsidizes high-quality preschool
- Replace the expiring Families and Education Levy, which funds after- and out-of-school care to help high-risk students succeed in grades K-12
- Fund the Seattle Promise, which gives two years of free community college to every graduate of Seattle Public Schools
We believe that investing in the young people in our community today prepares the future workforce of tomorrow. Like all city spending, its crucial to have oversight measures to ensure accountability. We look forward to seeing measurable results that benefit our city’s youth, from preschool through college.
The hospitality industry offers career opportunities at every level—prepared students can go on to excel in high-level positions. Leveling the playing field for Seattle students is the right thing to do, and we are proud to support our community through our endorsement of Prop. 1.
